Where I speak with fervour.

Ebullient

It seems wordpress has changed its editing page and it looks cooler now.

Last night was random but so fun.  I went out with two people I barely knew and they’re older than me (already in uni).  Well, Zouk was absolutely crowded.  The queue went all the way down to Copthorne King’s carpark and it was only 9pm.  I was desperate enough to try cutting queue by calling some idiot I dislike to see if he was ahead in the queue.  He was queueing at phuture and said he would call me back.  He didn’t but it didn’t matter because we left and went somewhere else.  I could totally click with these two people and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.  I saw a bunch of Taiwanese people sniffing cocaine (or some other drug or stimulant) and I was kinda creeped out.  There was a torrential downpour after we left the club and we got a little wet trying to catch a cab.  Anyway, I’m gonna do this again!

Fabian, I hope the wound from the extraction of your wisdom teeth is now alright.  We can hang out some other time.

Plunging Into Dolour

Last night was one of the worst nights of my life.  Prom was boring, the food sucked, I lost my camera, I lost my camera, I lost my camera (I must be delirious right now), I didn’t sleep, the hotel was crap, lots of unpleasant things happened and ultimately it was a lousy night for this pathetic soul of mine.  At least I’ll now have a reason to get a Lumix and I had a few good friends to chat with through the night.

Give You My All

Since I’m really busy and I’ve nothing much to talk about because my social life has come to a standstill, I decided share a song with you guys.  I like this song, Give You My All by Eyes Set To Kill.  It’s really sweet and I purposely chose the video with lyrics so that you can read them.  Enjoy and study hard!  (to all those taking As)

Tragedy at the Olympics

http://beijingolympicsblog.files.wordpress.com/2008/04/liu-xiang.jpg

Liu XIang is out of contention at the Beijing Olympics!

I was sitting at home studying today, but I couldn’t help but turn on the television to watch the 110m hurdles heats.  As a Singaporean Chinese, I wanted to see how the only Chinese olympic gold medallist for track fared on his home ground.  However, drama struck!  Liu Xiang looked uncomfortable when he was entering the stadium and he was limping a little.  He did attempt to run, but he pulled out after a false start and it was clear that he was suffering from an injury.  It’s one of the greatest disasters the Chinese people have seen at the Beijing Olympics.  Spectators started leaving the stadium after he pulled out because their sole reason for going down today was to watch him.  A star has plummeted from the heavens…

I’ve been following the olympics very closely.  I’ve watched diving, gymnastics, swimming and the list goes on.  Usain Bolt was super cool when he ran the 100m sprint and broke the world record.  He even had time to turn around and look back at his opponents.  Michael Phelps was also uber cool.  He almost lost a gold medal during the 100m butterfly.  He won by a mere 0.01 secs.

I must not forget to congratulate Team Singapore too for winning a medal after 48 years.  Yes, our beloved country took 48 years to win another silver medal.  It’s a good thing China introduced the table tennis team event to win an extra gold, by doing so we won a silver.

I just love watching the olympics and I’m supporting China for it’s bid to be at the top of the gold medal tally.  They have already collected 35 gold medals so far!

Delirium

This weekend, I went clubbing for two consecutive nights!  Can you believe that?!  I must be delusional. Haha.  I saw Chuan En yesterday and yes, for those of you who remember him, he’s the sole whistle-blowing student conductor VS choir has ever had.  Vernon, Fabian and I were joking about him.  He was really lousy at leading people and he had to use a whistle to get the choir’s attention.  Everyone laughed when he blew the whistle.  I remembered once, during choir practice, he made us open the windows and turn off the air-con as punishment.  So retarded.  He used to print little notes for the choir and people would just crush them and throw them away.  He went to RJ instead of VJ and asked Mr. Kwei to let him join chorale.  He was such a loser. (maybe he still is)

Anyway, enough about Chuan En and his nonsense.  This morning I was really annoyed.  I only reached home at about 5am and slept around 5.30am.  My dad woke me up at 10.30am just to buy wanton mee, chwee kueh, newspapers and stuff for my mum’s friends to eat because they are coming in the afternoon.  That means that I only had barely 5 hours of sleep and had to run such errands with my brother.  The Pontian wanton noodles stall had a very long queue.  I detest Kovan’s hawker centre for its stalls with long queues but food of average quality.  I gotta admit that the fried wantons are lovely though.  I asked my brother to check that there were 7 packets of noodles in the plastic bag, he looked through it and claimed that the number was correct.  When we reached home, we realised there we were short of 2 packets.  My brother did a slipshod job of counting the packets as usual and just assumed that the number was right.  He was made to go all the way back to the hawker centre to get the 2 packets.  Luckily for him, the 2 packets were left waiting for him at the stall.  I’m really tired now, I need to go back to sleep.  I think I won’t be having anymore late night activities until the As are over.

Dreading this Week

Here are a few updates on my life since last Tuesday.

I got my new phone last Wednesday or Thursday. I can’t really remember which day. It’s a Sony Ericsson W960i. It has 8GB and a touchscreen! The touchscreen can be quite annoying at times and the phone is a little lag (unlike a usual SE phone), but I still like it. I’ve named it M&M. Xiuru wanted me to call it Smartie since it’s a smartphone, but I don’t like smarties so I decided to call it M&M instead. Haha.

The power clique celebrated Mong’s birthday on Friday at the Esplanade’s rooftop. We ordered pizza from Pizza Hut and had a pint of Mong’s favourite Haagen Dazs ice-cream (Melon).

{I think Mong told me to delete this photo, but I didn’t. Hehe.}

My cousins came over to my house that night to stayover. They set up two tents on my balcony and attempted to sleep there. Catriona managed to sleep but Connor couldn’t, so they went downstairs to sleep on the bed just as I had expected.

Fad and Kon came over to study yesterday, but it wasn’t very productive. Anyway, we’re planning to go to Hong Kong straight after our A levels!

Today I went to Kimage near my house to get a haircut and it sucked! My hair was cut by a senior hairstylist, but her skills paled in comparison to all the other hairstylists from hair salons of equal calibre that I have been to. She even cut my left sideburn wrongly! Furthermore, it was my most expensive haircut at $30. I’m never going there to cut again. I need to get my hair fixed at my usual hair salon soon!

Damn the common tests are next week!

Tuesday’s Thoughts

My mind’s in a daze now, so I won’t say much.

I had a rather successful study session with lauch at my house today.  We actually did study, but we had a little distraction too.  We watched Kung Fu Panda illegally on my laptop through one of those video sharing websites and it was not bad.  Lauch was a little distracted by the chocolate I offered him.  Haha.  He had to stop himself from finishing an entire box.

On Saturday and Sunday, I was a facilitator for Under No Roof, a poverty camp which simulates the conditions of poverty stricken people in disaster-hit areas.  The camp was enriching.  It was really cold at night as we slept on pieces of cardboard laid out on wet grass at West Coast Park.  I was having a flu and yet I had to sleep in such chilly conditions.  The second day, we had to build “houses” and there were a few local celebrities who appeared briefly.  I spoke to Daphne Khoo a little as she was assigned to assist us in the building of our house.  Everyone sort of ignored her, so I just talked to her even though I was exhausted.  My group miraculously won first place for the camp.  They each won a free return air ticket to Sichuan from Cathay Pacific to help the victims of the recent massive earthquake.  Too bad facilitators don’t get the prize.  Maybe I shall organise a mahjong and ps3 session at my house for my group soon.  In the mean time, I need to study hard for the upcoming common test.

Sorry

I haven’t posted in such a tremendously long time.  Sorry people if you have been coming here and getting annoyed because I haven’t updated.  Well, I have been busy with stuff like bbq parties.  Haha.  My eczema hands aren’t helping either, I’m handicapped when I type.  I have four finger which I can’t use, but the eczema is getting better after applying the cream the doctor gave.  You’ll get a nice post from me soon! ;)

Shifting Pains

Life has been exhausting lately. I just moved house yesterday and it has been really tiring for the past week with all the packing and cleaning to be done. This is the first time I’m moving house because my parents have never thought of moving for the past 18 years. (Well maybe 16 because they bought this new house 2 years ago.) It took really long for my new house to be reconstructed because my parents bought a 20+ year old terrace house and had to do major construction to beautify our new home. Now the pains of moving house is not over yet as there are so many things to unpack and I’ve to assimilate with my new surroundings. I don’t really know how to get to school and I don’t even know how to walk out from this estate to the main road. Haha. I’ll figure it out later.

Choir is gonna murder me this week. I heard from XianYong that there’s gonna be choir practice almost every day this week in preparation for our annual Symphony of Voices concert next Monday. It’s crazy. I heard there was plenty of drama during yesterday’s practice. I wasn’t there because I was moving house. There was choir practice again today but I didn’t go because I had tonnes of stuff to unpack and do in this new home.

One thing that has really tortured me this week is a skin problem on my fingers. It’s  called dyshidrosis which is a form of eczema.   You can check it out on wikipedia.  My wedding finger looks alien now and people don’t freak out because it is hereditary and not contagious. My mum has this problem too. This problem has hindered my carrying of heavy stuff as ‘juice’ will ooze out of the tiny blisters if I do so and it has also prevented me from bathing properly because the condition will worsen if the affected area comes into contact with water. A few of my other fingers are starting to get this problem too. Sigh. I wanna die in my sleep… Nah, I’m not planning to die just yet.

Gotta help out my parents now.

Musicfest

I wanted to give a neutral title for this post.  Hence, musicfest.

For those of you from other schools who don’t know what musicfest is, it is a music/dance/music video competition held in vjc annually.  I noticed a few improvements this year.  Seats were allocated, so there was no necessity to queue to get better seats and the ushers were more strict in checking that those who entered had a ticket each.  Thus, hardly anyone sat along the aisle.  The prizes this year for the contestants were also better and the vouchers given to every single person in the audience were better too.

However, this year’s musicfest pales in comparison with last year’s.  The quality of performances was so much better last year.  The emcees were horrible this year, last year’s emcees were so amusing.  This year, Wei An (one of the emcees) put on a funny accent that sounded like an Indonesian’s even though he’s Malaysian.  Aaron was very negligible and so was the girl.  There were several corny jokes and it was not carried out smoothly.  Another bad thing about musicfest was the vocal soloists.  There was not a single person from choir in that category which is commonly known to be dominated by choristers and the vocal soloists all didn’t sound good.  Olivia had a nice voice but she kept wavering (obviously lack of support), Audrey was in tune but bland and Min Xin was flirtatious but her voice was airy and weak (she can’t sing well).  The bands were ok, but the volume of the microphone used by the vocalists was not loud enough so the singing could hardly be heard and could not be judged.

The worst thing of the night was the judging!  I was utterly disgusted by almost all the results of the different categories.  The worst decision made by the judges was for the Dance category.  The lousy year 1 dance group, peanut butter whatever, actually won even though their moves were so basic and they were clearly the least skilled and entertaining.  Everyone cheered loudly for the best Dance group which got 2nd, the one with the Indian guys, when they went to receive their prizes to show who they felt should have triumphed.  Their moves were so sleek and they were definitely the best Dance group.  I really felt sad for the other group, PCD, which got 3rd because they deserved 2nd as the pathetic year 1 peanut whatever only had the quality to be last.  For vocal solo, Min Xin actually won with her weak voice but it wasn’t so bad as she made up for it with her stage presence.  For band, Polarix (did i spell it correctly?) played good music though the vocals were barely audible and they won.  The lead singer, Binghao’s twin, is really cocky.  I can’t stand it.  I felt a tinge of sadness for Desmond’s band, I think they didn’t win due to song choice and there were too many pauses in between the song.  The guitarists were also not as good as Polarix’s.  They could have won though.  The music video category was also very disappointing.  The finger dancing video was hilarious and my favourite out of the 3; the Hello Panda one was funny too.  In the end, the least entertaining video made by ex-chungcheng students with the most effort put in won.  I guess it was alright they won because it was obvious that they put in plenty of hardwork into creating the video.  The Dance results still irks me!  Anyway, the only result that was justified was that of the Vocal Group category.  Mel, Sherwin and Nono won!  I especially liked the part with the piano.  Congratulations to them!  There was Sherwin, so sure win!  Haha.  Cherissa’s group was good too and came in 2nd.  The three tenors had pitching problems and they moved too much that’s why the microphone moved away from their mouths many instances and they could not be heard.  They got 3rd.

This year there was no sms voting, so no audience prize was given out.  It was less enjoyable without the sms voting.

My overall verdict for Musicfest Cinema Paradiso 2008 is 6/10 (acceptable).  Last year’s was way more thrilling and enjoyable.  I will post some pictures when I get them from my friends.

This morning I had my medical check-up for pre-enlistees and I was a little upset because I’m classified as pes A which means there is nothing wrong with me and I’m perfectly healthy.  Damn it.  I wanted to be in pes C so that I can slack during National Service.  Nevermind, there’s still hope.  There’s still the blood test, maybe there is something wrong with my blood?  Maybe I might break an arm or a leg this year?  Ok whatever.  I’m going to sleep now.
