Teachers’ Day

Alright, I woke up at 5.45am this morning just to turn up in school to discover that they were celebrating teachers’ day at 9am.  I could have had more sleep if I knew they were going to let the J1s have mass breakfast with the teachers and leave us, the seniors, out.  Great…  Anyway, we spent the “breakfast time” hunting for teachers to give the cookies a few of us baked and I gave roses to three teachers.  We couldn’t find Ms Goh LY.  I think she was too drunk last night after the teachers’ day dinner and didn’t come to school today due to a massive hangover.  HAHA.  The few of us that were present in school took a handful of pictures with a few teachers.

What’s with that face, kel?

This teacher’s day celebration wasn’t as entertaining as last year’s mainly because there were no live performances by the teachers.  Last year, some teachers cross-dressed and danced.  It was hysterical.  There were a few funny videos presented to us this time with teachers doing hilarious things.

After the performances ended in VJ, I went down to VS since it was nearby.  I gave Mr. Chan a rose and didn’t say much as I had little to converse with him.  It was really boring going back to VS without my best friends.  The only good friend I had there was Chia How and Wilson was so late that we didn’t meet him.  We were really hungry, but I had to pass something to Lix so we went down to Serangoon Gardens.  I couldn’t find my way to her house even though I had been there several times before as we stopped at a different bus stop from the one I usually alight at.  I dropped the thing I had to pass to her in her letter box and went for lunch at the hawker centre.  Chia How ate $8 worth of stuff there and I had to drink a glass of tea and sugarcane juice because there was some miscommunication between us.  I thought he wanted both dessert and tea.  I was down with fatigue when I reached home and had a lovely afternoon nap. :)

Closing Time

It’s that dreaded time of the year again and it is certainly more dreadful for me this year than the previous one.  I had my GP exam on Monday.  I didn’t feel too good about my essay because I was just not in the mood and I used very limited vocabulary.  The comprehension paper was alright though because I managed to complete my AQ and summary was ok.  I’m so looking forward to the prelims and the A levels…

Yesterday was our dear friend, Konrad’s birthday.  I actually forgot and assumed that it was over and we had already celebrated it.  However, Fadhil asked me on the phone whether I was going to celebrate it.  I asked him when is Kon’s birthday.  Konrad was just beside him so Fad just asked him directly.  Haha.  So we wasted an entire day which could have been personally more beneficial if I had spent it at home studying.  This goes to show what wonderful friends we are.  Fadhil and I wanted to buy him an inflatable chair and make him carry it around on his birthday.  Unfortunately for us and the contrary for him, we could not find the chair Fadhil had seen on sale at Carrefour a while ago.  Thus, we decided to buy him Princess Leia.  It was a tough choice.  We knew that he would rather have Luke Skywalker and I suggested that we buy him both, but Fad rather spend money treating him to lunch than a stupid toy.  Hence, the lucky birthday boy ended up with a lady companion on his birthday.

He was not elated at all to see his birthday present from us.  His grimace tore our fragile hearts into shreds.  How could he not appreciate our well intended birthday gift?  He said he wanted to sell it or give it away though I doubt he will do that.  Haha.  He was lucky we gave him a plastic bag to carry Princess Leia in to save himself the embarrassment of lugging her around exposed to the pubic.  Don’t go thinking we’re that nice yet.  We wrote something on the plastic bag with a big silver marker on both sides.  Kon doesn’t want me to disclose what was written on the bag, so I shall not  We also gave him a little notebook with stickers on it.

We treated him to lunch at Jack’s Place.  We initially planned to go bowling or to play pool after lunch, but there was some disagreement.  Konrad was given the duty to decide and we were forced to watch one of the worst movies that have ever appeared before my eyes, 12 Lotus (by Royston Tan).  Please remind me never to let Kon decide on what movie we should watch on his birthday.  The last time we watched a movie on his birthday also had a disastrous conclusion.  Memories of Sharkboy and Lavagirl are just too painful to recount.  12 Lotus had little artistic value.  It was boring and felt as long as a Bollywood film even though it was only about 2 hours long.  Judging from the number of people in the theatre, I could understand why the cinema had to screen half an hour of advertisements before the show started.  It was agonising to watch a Hokkien musical on the big screen.  Fad wanted to walk out of the theatre and I felt tempted to do so too but I wanted to give it a chance to prove my judgement wrong.  However, it’s ending was as bad as it’s beginning.

After that my eyes had some respite as Kon and I watched Wall-e.  My mum had two free tickets to the show and she couldn’t make it because she had a meeting, so she gave me the tickets.  I slept through the first part because I was exhausted and I had already watched the film online as it came a month late to Singapore.  Nevertheless, I still enjoyed the film.  Disney and Pixar never cease to entertain me.

Today, Chia Hao came over to my house to study.  He was supposed to study with a girl he likes but she asked along a best friend who happens to be fat, so he did not want to study with them.  It was raining really heavily and I had to meet him at Kovan for lunch.  I had to walk through massive puddles of water.  Anyway we had lunch and did some productive studying before he left.  I’m wondering whether I should return to VS and VJ on teacher’s day.  I wonder who’s going back.

Tragedy at the Olympics

http://beijingolympicsblog.files.wordpress.com/2008/04/liu-xiang.jpg

Liu XIang is out of contention at the Beijing Olympics!

I was sitting at home studying today, but I couldn’t help but turn on the television to watch the 110m hurdles heats.  As a Singaporean Chinese, I wanted to see how the only Chinese olympic gold medallist for track fared on his home ground.  However, drama struck!  Liu Xiang looked uncomfortable when he was entering the stadium and he was limping a little.  He did attempt to run, but he pulled out after a false start and it was clear that he was suffering from an injury.  It’s one of the greatest disasters the Chinese people have seen at the Beijing Olympics.  Spectators started leaving the stadium after he pulled out because their sole reason for going down today was to watch him.  A star has plummeted from the heavens…

I’ve been following the olympics very closely.  I’ve watched diving, gymnastics, swimming and the list goes on.  Usain Bolt was super cool when he ran the 100m sprint and broke the world record.  He even had time to turn around and look back at his opponents.  Michael Phelps was also uber cool.  He almost lost a gold medal during the 100m butterfly.  He won by a mere 0.01 secs.

I must not forget to congratulate Team Singapore too for winning a medal after 48 years.  Yes, our beloved country took 48 years to win another silver medal.  It’s a good thing China introduced the table tennis team event to win an extra gold, by doing so we won a silver.

I just love watching the olympics and I’m supporting China for it’s bid to be at the top of the gold medal tally.  They have already collected 35 gold medals so far!

Cute is what We aim for

My mum has officially grounded me for three months until the A level examinations are over.  That means that I can’t go out at night anymore.  That means I can’t celebrate anybody’s birthday at night.  Sorry Lix and some others whose birthdays are coming up.  I asked mummy dearest for permission to attend the FIR concert yesterday and she refused, so Fabian’s giving the free ticket to Xuehu instead.

Since I’m not going to the FIR concert tonight, I decided to have lunch with Terence.  Fabian came along at the last minute because he didn’t have to book into camp today.  We had lunch at Paragon’s Sushi Tei.  It was a satisfying meal and we had many cups of green tea.  We chatted about what Fabian should do with his future since he is so uncertain himself.  I hope he wakes up and do something about his life.

http://www.musicremedy.com/webfiles/artists/CuteIsWhatWeAimFor/CIWWAF-03-big.jpg

Fabian left early to prepare for the concert and Terence and I continued window shopping.  We went looking around at different stuff.  Calvin Klein seemed to be having a lot of discounts today.  I got my hands on Cute Is What We Aim For’s latest album, Rotation, at HMV!  Wilson sent me a few songs by the band last week and I really like their music.  I haven’t bought an album in a long time so I decided to purchase Rotation.  You can say that it was bought on impulse, but I don’t regret it.

I was walking along Orchard Road towards the mrt station when I felt somebody tapping my shoulder from behind.  I halted and turned around.  It was a woman and she told me that my image is complementary to her company’s next advertisement, so she gave me her card and asked me for my name and mobile number.  I think it was another one of those modelling scams.  I encountered one two years ago when I was waiting for a friend at Orchard MRT station.  That ‘modelling agency’ asked me whether I was interested in joining their company on the condition that I pay for my own portfolio.  Did they think I was so gullible?  They obviously earned most of their money from losers desperately aspiring to become models and willingly pay for their ‘portfolio’.  Sigh, we have such suckers in our society and it’s amazing how conmen target the growing narcissism in modern culture.

Happy Birthday to our glorious nation that has yet to win an olympic medal in about 40 years!

Hanayome to Papa

Hanayome_to_Papa.jpg Hanayome to Papa picture by avrilportal

I know I ought to be studying for the biology and chemistry tests on Tuesday, but I can’t resist the allure of publicising a Japanese drama I’ve recently discovered.  Furthermore, I feel that my preparation for the biology test is sufficient to pass.  I’ll be studying for the chemistry test after this and tomorrow I’ll  be going to Dhoby Ghaut to study with Chia Hao.  My standard in Chemistry requires the most attention, so I shall be mugging chemistry the whole of tomorrow.

I discovered Hanayome to Papa about a week ago while browsing through Mysoju’s collection of dramas.  Apparently, I had overlooked this drama during my previous searches for nice dramas to watch on various websites such as Dramawiki.  This drama has turned out to be my second favourite Japanese drama, losing out to the one and only Nodame Cantabile.

Basically, it’s a romance/family comedy involving themes related to family issues, love and work.  I think I’m making it sound a little boring, but do not be mistaken, it is hilarious.  Similar to several Japanese shows, this drama attempts to tackle on the importance of family values and the intensely strong bond between a father and daughter. I love this drama because of its simplicity.  There are no love triangles that are commonly seen in Korean dramas that complicate matters and cause much agony to the viewers.  However, there were problems in the drama that nearly resulted in the collapse of their romance.  Fortunately, everything turns out well as usual.

It stars Ishihara Satomi as Aiko, the female lead, and Taguchi Junnosuke as her love interest.  A really tall old guy, Tokito Saburo, plays the role of the strict but loving father of Aiko.  Aiko’s father has 5 house rules for her to follow such as a 7pm curfew and prohibition of relationships with the opposite gender.  These rules add lots of humour into the show.  Aiko is portrayed as an adorable and honest girl, while her love interest (Seiji) is equally cute and silly.  You should watch this show at your own leisure when you get sick of studying.  I recommend it.

Anyway, Fabian’s family got free tickets to the FIR concert on Friday and he asked me to go with him.  He said he asked me only after offering the ticket to Terence and Ian because he knew I would readily agree.  Indeed I did agree to go with him, but now I’m wondering if I should.  I decided to give Singfest a miss because I felt it was too close to the exams, but the FIR concert is even nearer to the impendning prelims.  Oh well, but it’s free…

Yesterday, I was supposed to rollerblade with Sarah Tan and two other people but I felt really sick.  I skipped biology lecture and slept in the choir room.  When I woke up in the morning, I already felt unwell but I forced myself to attend school for chemistry and history.  I had a sore throat and my pharynx was sore.  I’m sorry for being such a spoiler and being unable to participate in the much anticipated rollerblading outing we had planned.  I still have a sore pharynx now, but I feel much better after consuming loads of water and sleeping.

I haven’t updated with photos in a week, so here are some pictures.

Fabian and I were rather high on long island tea last Friday, so we camwhored for quite a bit.

Kum Boon’s birthday was on Wednesday, so we held a mini celebration in class.  I gave her a present I made which had pictures and my thoughts inside and I also gave her a novel.  Shanti baked a lovely apple crumble as a birthday cake for her.  Yusheng and Wynne were so sweet, they gave her a balloon. Haha.
